Hi there! I'm Ivan. I graduated in 2019 from UC San Diego with a Bachelor's in Biochemistry/Cell Biology and a minor in Psychology. My professional journey began in biotech, where I helped with the early discovery of sdAbs panels from llamas (don't worry, no llamas were harmed). Later, I researched anti-IL-11Ra monoclonal therapeutics for Thyoid Eye Disease and Pulmonary Fibrosis. My ultimate goal is to lead my own team in developing new therapeutics and further bridge the gap between bench and bedside. These experiences underscore my life-long interests in translational research and cell-cell regulation. I took the leap and decided to pursue a Ph.D. in the Immunology Graduate Group at UC Davis. Currently, I'm finding my niche in looking at the origin and roles of MDSCs in Head and Neck Cancer. Outside the lab, I enjoy spending time outdoors, swimming, and playing board games. And when life gets a bit too hectic, I turn to stress baking for some time away. I’m always happy to grab coffee and chat!
